Regency Ball
In Light of the Covid-19 Pandemic, theatre as a live event was shut down. In order to keep students engaged and the creative juices flowing, the Texas State University graduate students were invited to create two characters for a costume exhibit with the following prompts:
The year: 1809
The event: The Harvest Ball, “The thankful receiver bears a plentiful harvest”
The location: Warwick Castle, Warwickshire County
Character 1:
Mr. Bromwell Turnwich
Age: 22
Body Type: Fit and Youthful
Occupation: Lord of Turnwich Manner
Other’s Comments:
The young and attractive Lord has certainly come into a great deal of responsibility in inheriting his late father’s estate. One can only imagine the utter wreck the affairs must be on one so young to the ways of the world. His father passed of drink and Mother speculates that those the estate is grand that pockets might not be so deep for Turnwich these days.
Character 2:
Miss Juliana Greyson
Age: 16
Body Type: Youthful and thin
Occupation: Schoolgirl
Other’s Comments:
Mother always tells me to watch that Juliana Greyson. She is nothing but a young Sissy Herdwhick in training! Julie is far more daring and brave than I or Margery, and sometimes I expect she will get me into more trouble than it might be worth. She has told me tonight she has her sites set on Cpt. Tanner and I’ve just not the heart to tell her. . . .
